West Brom’s promotion rivals Sheffield United have signed Hamza Choudhury on loan from Leicester City. He has joined the Blades on loan for the rest of the season.

Choudhury, 27, has been on the books of the Foxes for his whole career to date. He has made 131 appearances in all competitions and has also had spells away in the past at Burton Albion and Watford.

He has said: “It has been going on for a couple of weeks but I’m happy to be here and ready to get going. I’ve seen the position that the team has put itself in and I want to come here and help.

“I worked with the gaffer for a couple of months at Watford, it was short, but I enjoyed it, so when he called there was only one answer from me. I’ve played here a couple of times and the atmosphere is always amazing. It is an attractive club for anyone and it is a really good fit for me and my family.”

Their boss Chris Wilder added: “He has had success in this division and in an area of the pitch where we are understaffed, Hamza will give us physicality, presence and energy. He has been our main target for this position.”

Leeds United eye Matt Targett

Leeds United are interested in Newcastle United’s £12m left-back Matt Targett. According to The Athletic, the Whites have enquired about his availability this month.

Targett has fallen down the pecking order with his current club over recent times under Eddie Howe. He has played only twice for the Toon Army so far in this campaign.

The defender rose up through the academy ranks at Southampton and has also had stints at Fulham and Aston Villa. Daniel Farke could see him as someone to boost his defensive department. They drew 0-0 at Burnley on Monday.

Barlaser is a player who their boss Paul Warne knows well and he wants to reunite at Pride Park. The duo worked together at Rotherham United.

Barlaser played twice for Newcastle as a youngster before linking up with the Millers. He then became a key player with the Yorkshire outfit before Boro came calling in 2023.

At the time, their manager Michael Carrick said: “Dan is a player who I’ve had an eye on for a while, and we’re delighted to bring him in. He is a perfect fit for us, not only in terms of attributes and what he can bring on the pitch but also character and desire to improve.”
