West Ham United now frontrunners to sign Max Kilman ahead of Newcastle United amid transfer update

West Ham have moved ahead of Newcastle United in the race for centre-back Max Kilman after fresh talks with Wolves, according to The Northern Echo.

Writing on their website [25 June], the Echo said Newcastle made a formal approach for Kilman over the weekend and reportedly offered Elliott Anderson in a cash-plus-player bid but have been rebuffed in their initial approach.

As such, the Echo said that West Ham sources are now increasingly confident that they can strike a deal having moved to the front of the queue to sign the 27-year-old.

Julen Lopetegui wants Max Kilman reunion at West Ham

The Irons have already reportedly had two bids rejected for the man Julen Lopetegui made Wolves captain when he was manager at Molineux.

With fresh talks now expected between the two clubs and the expectation of a third bid to be tabled, it looks increasingly likely that a deal can be struck.

Lopetegui will be confident that he can secure Kilman’s services with Wolves reportedly needing to sell a first-team player to fund other moves in the market (Shropshire Star, 21 June).

Tim Steidten is working hard to bring in the Hammers’ number one defensive target quickly and avoid another transfer saga.

Fabricio Bruno turned down a move to West Ham after agreeing a £15 million deal with Flamengo last month.

With Angelo Ogbonna leaving the club and Nayef Aguerd touted to leave this summer, the Hammers need defensive recruits.

The 27-year-old has proven his capability in the English top-flight and will know what Lopetegui expects of him right away, which would be a big boost for the boss as he looks to lay down a marker at the London Stadium.
