Wolves could beat Nottingham Forest to genius swoop for £19m former Leeds United gem

Wolves could sign a perfect replacement for Rayan Ait-Nouri.

Wolverhampton Wanderers are on the hunt for a new left wing-back as Manchester City are in advanced talks to sign Rayan Ait-Nouri.

It looks as if Wolves will be losing another star man – just a matter of days after selling Matheus Cunha to Manchester United – as Pep Guardiola’s side is eager to get the Ait-Nouri deal done and dusted before the FIFA Club World Cup kicks off in just over a week’s time.

The Old Gold faced a tough task trying to replace one key player, but it will be even trickier to find a replacement for a second. The club will try their best to get the right faces in, though, with the search ongoing. There’s ample time to complete any potential deals, too, as Wolves won’t have to worry about Club World Cup fixtures.

One left wing-back Wanderers have been linked with is Brondby’s Clement Bischoff. The Denmark under-21 international, who was heavily linked with Brighton & Hove Albion during the winter transfer window, has enjoyed a superb breakthrough season at Brondby, making 40 senior appearances across all competitions through 2024/25.

But who else could Wolves turn to? Birmingham World has been assessing the situation and believes there could be just the man for the job.

Wolves could attempt to swoop for £19m-rated Ipswich Town gem

Ipswich Town left-back Leif Davis could be the perfect Ait-Nouri replacement. Although not linked with a move to Molineux just yet, the 25-year-old is likely to leave Portman Road this summer following the Tractor Boys’ relegation to the Championship, and Wolves should have a stab at signing him.

Davis ranked third for all Premier League full-backs for crosses completed last season, and he created 25.4 percent of all of Ipswich’s chances. The Englishman’s maximum speed of 35.23 km/h also ranked fourth among all players in the top flight. Davis wasn’t at his best defensively, as pointed out a lot by Ipswich fans, but playing in a wing-back role for Wolves would leave him less exposed.

Ait-Nouri is in a similar boat when it comes to defending, quite frankly, as the Algerian often struggles when one-on-one. Neither player is totally hopeless in the defensive third, but they are perhaps lacking a little in that department. They make up for it with what they can offer at the other end of the field, though.

Ipswich will be reluctant to let one of their best players leave this summer, but they could be tempted to sell if a big enough offer arrives. It remains to be seen just how much the Tractor Boys would want, but Davis’ current market value is around €22 million (£18.6m), as per Transfermarkt.

Wolves may not be on their own in trying to sign Davis if they do decide to target him, as Nottingham Forest have been linked. Independent Ipswich publication TWTD reports Forest are keeping tabs on Davis and are eager to sign him this summer. Signed from Leeds United in 2022 for just £1.1 million, Davies could earn Ipswich a mega profit.
