Wolves declare interest in £15m-rated Man Utd and Nottingham Forest target

Wolverhampton Wanderers have reportedly declared an interest in signing Rennes left-back Adrien Truffert.

The Frenchman, who featured five times at the recent Olympic Games in Paris before claiming the silver medal, has earned interest from several Premier League clubs.

Truffert has been a regular for Rennes in Ligue 1 for the past four years, playing at least 28 times in every season since 2020/21. The 22-year-old is experienced in continental competitions, too, with a total of 28 appearances across the Champions League, Europa League and Europa Conference League.

French publication L’Equipe reports Wolves, Liverpool, Manchester United and Nottingham Forest have all expressed an interest in signing Truffert this summer. Rennes aren’t under pressure to sell as there’s still just under two years left on the defender’s contract, but it could be the last opportunity to maximise the fee.

Truffert only returned to Rennes training on Tuesday following his campaign at the Olympics under Thierry Henry’s stewardship. He’s not had a full pre-season but has of course kept up his fitness at a competitive level.

It awaits to be seen how much Rennes would demand to sell their star left-back this summer but Truffert’s current value, as per Transfermarkt, is around £15.3 million. Yet to enter his prime, the Liege-born France Under-23 international can only get better.

Wolves, having recently sent out Hugo Bueno on loan to Dutch Eredivisie side Feyenoord, are a little light in the left-back department. Rayan Ait-Nouri is the clear first choice but Gary O’Neil is lacking depth in the position. It’ll be interesting to see if Wolves do indeed turn to Truffert to solve the issue.
