Wolves Exclusive: Points deduction update today after done deals

Wolves are confident they will avoid a profit and sustainability (PSR) breach for this season following their last-ditch signings, sources have told Football Insider.

The West Midlands side were the Premier League’s second-biggest spenders behind Manchester City in the recent transfer window.

They agreed deals for center-back Nasser Djiga and midfielder Marshall Munetsi from Red Star Belgrade and Reims on deadline day (3 February).

Wolves already signed center-back Emmanuel Agbadou from Reims earlier in the window, with those three signings taking their overall spending to more than £42 million.

Vitor Pereira’s side also managed to keep hold of their key players after Arsenal explored a move for star forward Matheus Cunha.

The only departures from Molineux saw Luke Cundle join Millwall on a permanent deal and Tawanda Chirewa head to Huddersfield Town on loan.

Sources have told Football Insider  Molineux chiefs are confident of avoiding a PSR breach this season after strengthening their squad significantly over the past few weeks.

Wolves handed PSR boost after big-money sales

Wolves were believed to be close to the spending limit last season, with top-flight clubs only permitted to make £105 million of losses over a rolling three-year period.

The big-money sales of Matthew Nunes, Ruben Neves, and Nathan Collins in the summer of 2023 helped get them over the line and avoid a potential breach.

Wolves posted a revenue of £168.6 million in their latest accounts for 2022–23, but they recorded a £67.2 million loss, and their wage bill increased to £141.5 million across the same period.

They were forced to part ways with former captains Max Kilman and Pedro Neto last summer to ease their financial concerns for this season, having raked in close to £100 million from those deals.

Sources say their summer business allowed the club more flexibility in January to agree new signings without having the threat of a PSR breach hanging over them.

Matheus Cunha could leave Wolves for bigger club

Wolves were handed a boost last weekend after it was confirmed Cunha has penned a new four-and-a-half-year deal at Molineux.

The 25-year-old, who joined the club permanently from Atletico Madrid for £35 million in the summer of 2023, has registered 11 goals and four assists in 24 appearances this season.

Football Insider revealed on 4 February Cunha is keen to play for a bigger club despite signing a new deal.

The Brazil international got on the scoresheet in Wolves’ 2-0 victory over Aston Villa on 1 February, helping his side leapfrog Leicester City into 17th place in the Premier League table.
