Wolves return to action in the Premier League on Wednesday night as the Old Gold travel to Goodison Park.
Gary O’Neil was humiliated by his former club Bournemouth last time the squad featured in the Premier League.
Wolves lost 4-2 to Bournemouth in terrible circumstances at Molineux, conceding three penalties in what was an alarming performance packed with individual errors.
O’Neil has to get his side ticking again with a trip to Everton on the cards next for the early relegation candidates.
Wolves team news vs Everton
Fortunately, there are no fresh injuries to report at this moment ahead of the duel at Goodison Park.
Craig Dawson and Santi Bueno are fit after returning to the match-day squad against Bournemouth, the duo could be in line to return to the starting lineup.
In frustrating news, Nelson Semedo is suspended after picking up his fifth yellow card of the season, resulting in him collecting a one-match ban.
O’Neil will have several decisions to make after the Old Gold’s defeat to Bournemouth, opening some doors and slamming shut others.
Wolves predicted lineup to play Everton
Revising the starting XI that crumbled against Bournemouth, there are as many as six changes that O’Neil could make ahead of Everton.
It’s a must-win game for Wolves, as most are at the moment, with both the Midlands side and the Toffees desperate to edge away from the relegation zone.
Position | Team | Played | Won | Drawn | Lost | For | Against | Diff | Points |
15 | Everton | 12 | 2 | 5 | 5 | 10 | 17 | -7 | 11 |
16 | Leicester | 13 | 2 | 4 | 7 | 16 | 27 | -11 | 10 |
17 | Crystal Palace | 13 | 1 | 6 | 6 | 11 | 18 | -7 | 9 |
18 | Wolves | 13 | 2 | 3 | 8 | 22 | 32 | -10 | 9 |
19 | Ipswich | 13 | 1 | 6 | 6 | 13 | 24 | -11 | 9 |
20 | Southampton | 13 | 1 | 2 | 10 | 10 | 25 | -15 | 5 |
One thing that is absolutely clear ahead of the contest is that a different approach in defence is needed, triggering a mass of changes at the back.
Jose Sa was terrorised against Bournemouth and will more than likely be replaced by Sam Johnstone.
Ahead of the goalkeeper, there are expected to be more changes made, coming in the form of tweaks to what should be a back five.
Dawson and Bueno must come in along with Matt Doherty to replace Semedo, compiling a back five of Rayan Ait-Nouri, Toti Gomes, Dawson, Bueno and Doherty.
Such changes will see captain Mario Lemina displaced, which will most likely see the Gabon international return to midfield to partner Joao Gomes.
The change could come at £21m deadline day signing Andre’s expense, with the Brazilian still getting accustomed to his surroundings and, O’Neil is not afraid to rotate him.
Jean-Ricner Bellegarde and Rodrigo Gomes could be axed from the starting XI, with Pablo Sarabia a candidate to replace the Frenchman going forward.
Matheus Cunha and Jorgen Strand Larsen’s places speak for themselves at present, giving O’Neil at least two things to not consider ahead of the match.
