Ange Postecoglou, like any other manager who has been at Tottenham, is going through a challenging period both in sporting and media terms.

After the surprising defeat against Brighton & Hove Albion in the latest Premier League match, the Australian coach is once again under scrutiny, with many media outlets and journalists weighing in on the situation.

Recently, Alan Pardew shared his thoughts and made a comparison between what it’s like to manage Tottenham and what it’s like to manage Celtic, Postecoglou’s former team.

In comments reported by The Celtic Bhoys, Pardew said:

“When you’re in a dominant side like he was at Celtic, let’s be honest, in a way you can have a bit more of a carefree attitude and get results. You can’t do that in the Premier League. The top teams can’t do that.”

This is something that might certainly irk more than a few Celtic supporters. It’s true that the Scottish giants don’t face the same level of competition in their domestic league as what’s found in the Premier League, not to mention the differences in the overall quality between the two leagues.

However, it’s clear that with that dominance comes the expectation to win every time for The Hoops, which brings a level of pressure that not every manager or player can handle.

If we’re being strict, managing Tottenham also comes with a high level of pressure since the Spurs have gone over a decade without winning a trophy. But, of course, their financial muscle is far stronger than that of a club like Celtic, giving them much more room to manoeuvre when it comes to developing their sporting project.

The reality is that it’s nearly impossible to make a fair comparison between the two experiences. Each team poses its own challenges from a manager’s perspective, and to be honest, what we’ve seen from Postecoglou at Tottenham so far has been quite impressive.

It remains to be seen whether the Australian manager can finally establish his vision and style at Spurs. Achieving that requires patience, a trait that is often in short supply among the boards of elite clubs.
