Celtic and Rangers told ‘excellent’ Swans target is ‘no-brainer’ transfer

Barron move ‘no-brainer’

Scottish player Andy Halliday has told Rangers and Celtic that a move for Swansea target Connor Barron should be a “no-brainer”.

Aberdeen midfielder Barron is out of contract with the SPL club at the end of the season and has been linked with clubs in Serie A,

while Swansea remain interested following their January attempt to lure him to south Wales, which ultimately ended in failure.

Barron was in action against the Hoops last weekend in the Scottish Cup final and Halliday believes he was the best player on the park.

“Personally I thought Connor Barron was the best player on the pitch on Saturday,

to be honest,” the Motherwell man said on punditry duties for Clyde Superscoreboard.

“And he’s out of contract in the summer! I’m not trying to prise him away from Aberdeen but I always feel they are the no-brainers that

Celtic and Rangers should be looking for, especially when they’re trying to get homegrown talent for their European squads. I thought he was excellent.

Williams: We are building trust

Swansea head coach Luke Williams says their run of good form is helping build a relationship with supporters.

Three wins on the spin – against Huddersfield Town, Rotherham

United and Stoke City – have put a bit of gloss on the end-of-season feel to Swansea’s campaign, which has been a tumultuous one.

Williams believes the positive run shows supporters that the Swans are on the right track.

“The idea for us is to build trust with the fans. We want them to feel more trust with us,” he said.

“We’re going to fight for every single ball and, when we get hold of it, we’ll look to play nice football as well.

“Hopefully, if the fans see that regularly, they’ll trust us more. We have to earn their trust, they know what they’re looking at.

“You have to be the real deal and then, bit by bit, they’ll think ‘okay, we have our team that we respect and that’s going to be a nice moment.

The players have given everything in these recent games, and that’s the bare minimum.

Then we’ll see if we can play lovely football – which I think we did at times on Saturday – then let’s try to be exciting and create goalmouth opportunities and try to score goals.

“We did that against Huddersfield and when you do that you should be happy going back on the bus, and the fans hopefully were happy too.

“This is what we have to try to create now between here and the end of the season.”

Leonard attracting attention
