Funeral for Ian Baitson to take place in Cobh on Wednesday

The funeral for Ian Baitson will take place in Cobh on Wednesday.
The 32-year-old chef died in Cork University Hospital on Tuesday, four days after he suffered serious injuries in an assault in the car park of Eurospar on Newtown Rd in the east Cork town on Friday, March 25.
His family published his funeral arrangements on Sunday evening after a man has been charged in connection with his killing. The man is due before Midleton District Court on Monday morning.
The man, aged in his 30s, was arrested on Friday under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act 1984.
Mr Baitson will lie in repose at Cahill’s Funeral Home, Newtown Rd in Cobh, on Tuesday from 5pm until 7pm, with prayers at 6pm.
His removal will take place on Wednesday at 12.30pm to St. Colman’s Cathedral for 1pm Requiem Mass followed by cremation at the Island Crematorium, Ringaskiddy.
In his death notice, his family said: “We, Ian’s family wish to thank our extended family and friends for their unwavering help and support throughout this hard time,

The family also hailed the actions of friends of the dad of two children, including those “who travelled home from abroad to say their last goodbyes”.
They have thanked the staff of the ICU ward, the paramedics, gardaí,
surgeons and nursing staff “who helped prepare us for the devastating loss of a beautiful and wonderful person.”
