John Cartwright has confirmed that Hull FC back rower Oliver Holmes is a doubt ahead of Friday’s Super League opener at Catalans Dragons. The 32-year-old made his Black and Whites debut in the Challenge Cup against York Acorn last week but came off in the second half with a knee complaint.
Cartwright confirmed that the player was sore after the hit out, with the player now a doubt for the trip to Perpignan. However, he is the only senior player with a niggle, with Hull’s head coach set to name a strong squad on Wednesday ahead of the round one fixture.
Providing an update in his pre-match press conference on Tuesday, he told Hull Live: “Oliver is a little bit of a doubt. We’ve got a training session on Wednesday. We’ll try to tick all of the boxes on health and fitness, and then we’ll come up with a squad to take on Catalans.”
Hull will also be without four young players for the foreseeable future, with Jack Charles (ankle), Matty Laidlaw (MCL), Davy Litten (MCL), and Roman Dawson (ACL) all continuing their rehab processes.
“Jack has had a second injury, so he’ll be a few weeks yet,” Cartwright added. “Matty is still three or four weeks away. Davy is on course; he’ll be around April for his return.
“Roman is out for the season. He did his ACL, and he had his surgery done last Saturday. He’s been in and around the boys every day up until his surgery. He’s come in, and he’s got a really positive mindset.”
