Ibrox View: Rangers seem to be igniting a bidding war to maximize the sale price of a first-team player.

Rangers appear to be sparking a bidding war for Rabbi Matondo, especially in light of Leeds United’s recent stance.

Matondo bidding war possible as Rangers eye big money deal

Beren Cross, a journalist for LeedsLive with strong connections to Elland Road, was quick to dismiss any links to the Welsh international.

Football Scotland reported on 15 August that Leeds were interested in signing the 23-year-old.

However, Cross suggests this is not the case, stating that Matondo’s representatives and possibly Rangers are trying to drum up interest in the player.

He wrote: “Leeds have no interest in the 23-year-old, but Rangers and Matondo’s representatives could be using the club’s name in the media to attract other suitors. Links to Leeds will likely increase in the coming weeks, but many will be unfounded.”

Rangers are playing a smart move by attempting to generate interest in Rabbi Matondo.

By allowing rumors of interest, even if unsubstantiated, Rangers are strategically enhancing Matondo’s transfer value by suggesting high demand.

This tactic might encourage other clubs to bid, potentially raising his market price.

To further this interest, Rangers could emphasize Matondo’s impressive performances, focusing on his speed and goal-scoring abilities.

They could engage with the media through press releases and interviews, subtly signaling his availability for the right offer while using various platforms to their advantage.

This approach is aimed at maximizing the financial return from Matondo’s sale, which would allow Rangers to reinvest in players that better align with their long-term goals, thereby strengthening the first team.

Although Matondo played frequently last season, Rangers clearly need stronger players to secure the title.
