Match of the Day pundit lauds Wolves star as ‘the difference’ against Fulham

Wolves picked up another three points in the Premier League on Saturday, beating Fulham 2-1 at Molineux – and Ashley Williams hailed Rayan Ait-Nouri for his performance.

Wanderers moved up into eighth place, and have now equalled their final points tally of last season – with 10 games still left to play.

It has been a monumental effort from everyone, and the job Gary O’Neil has done has been utterly outstanding.

Yesterday could have been tricky. Wolves lost both Jean-Ricner Bellegarde and Pedro Neto to injuries, meaning O’Neil’s squad is now pretty threadbare.

But there is still a huge belief in that dressing room to do something amazing this season, and fans can scarcely believe what is happening.

Despite the loss of star player Neto yesterday, Rayan Ait-Nouri really came through for Wolves and he was picked out for praise on Match of the Day…

Ashley Williams lauds Rayan Ait-Nouri who’s been ‘good all season’ for Wolves

Losing Bellegarde and especially Neto was a major blow for Wolves, and it was all about who was going to step up.

Ait-Nouri was that man, with the Algerian everywhere for Wanderers. It was he who broke the deadlock early in the second-half, converting from a Toti Gomes pass.

Ait-Nouri was playing a more advanced role and seemed to be popping up everywhere,

especially in the second-half. It was a typically great performance from him from a technical standpoint – some of his footwork at times was mesmerising.

On Match of the Day, Williams raved over the star. He said: “He really impressed me today. He’s been good all season, but in this game in particular with the players Wolves had missing. He was the difference between the two teams. He was lively all day.

“That guy was the difference between two good teams today.”

Gary Lineker added that it was a ‘fabulous performance’ from the £10,000-a-week Algerian.

Ait-Nouri is special

When people think about top young talents at Wolves, most immediately think about Pedro Neto.

But they should also now be thinking about Ait-Nouri, because this player has the potential to be very special indeed.

Ait-Nouri has been a class act all season for Wanderers and is someone who has absolutely thrived under Gary O’Neil, after being frozen out by Julen Lopetegui.

Wolves are sitting on a gem with the 22-year-old and he is going to sell for a lot of money one day. Hopefully though, that day won’t come around for a good few years yet.
