West Brom and West Ham ‘in discussions’ over £9.8m deal but Wolves keen to ‘spoil the party’

West Ham United have reportedly made an approach to West Bromwich Albion over the potential signing of Grady Diangana.

The Hammers are claimed to be keen on reuniting with the Congo international, around four years after letting him leave for The Hawthorns in an £11.5 million deal.

Diangana has struggled to maintain consistency at West Brom but he’s been superb when at his best. The versatile winger scored eight and assisted seven – initially on loan – during Albion’s 2019/20 promotion season before netting just one goal in 20 Premier League games the year after.

It was another poor season upon the return to the Championship, with just two goals and one assist contributed in 41 matches throughout 2022/23. But the two most recent campaigns have been far better, with a combined 11 goals and 11 assists in 67 games.

Africa Foot reports West Ham have decided to target a sensational return after keeping a close eye on Diangana’s progress. It’s claimed the Hammers are “already in discussions” with West Brom’s hierarchy to initiate a deal, while an offer of £9.8 million is said to be being readied.

West Brom are in need of raising funds from sales this summer if Carlos Corberan is to have any chance of making his personal stamp on the squad. It awaits to be seen if the Baggies would be willing to sacrifice Diangana to facilitate that.

Wolves could spoil the Diangana party

Wolverhampton Wanderers could join the race for Diangana as Africa Foot goes on to state the Old Gold are interested in a summer swoop. Brighton & Hove Albion, Leicester City, Lazio and Roma are also listed as keen parties.

Making the switch from The Hawthorns to Molineux would immediately spoil any relationship between Diangana and West Brom’s passionate supporters, due to the intense rivalry with Wolves. The Congolese should keep that factor in mind when deciding on his next club.

He could yet stay, too, but the contract situation – just 12 months left on his deal – means Albion could be tempted to cash in while they can.
