Wolves bought Matheus Nunes from Sporting Lisbon in the summer of 2022 and now the latest details have emerged on the finances behind his move.

Wolves captured Matheus Nunes from Portuguese giants Sporting Lisbon in 2022 for a club record £42 million.

The 25-year-old went on to have a successful first season at Molineux, appearing 34 times in the Premier League.

Nunes played an integral role in the Wanderers engine room, ranking in the top 10% of midfielders in the top flight for successful take-ons and the top 20% for tackles won.

As a result, he caught the eye of Europe’s elite as Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City snapped him up for £53 million just a year after joining the Midlands side.

While that amount of money represented a profit at a time they needed it most, it has now emerged that Wolves have just had to pay millions for a player they no longer own.

in the sale of Nunes to Wolves that required the Premier League side to pay Sporting 10% of the profit they made on him.
