Everton are in the mix to sign Nürnberg forward Can Uzun, according to Florian Plettenberg.

The 18-year-old attacking midfielder has been enjoying a brilliant campaign. He has scored eight goals in 12 starts in Bundesliga 2, and has scored two goals on Saturday against Hansa Rostock.

He has held concrete talks with Borussia Dortmund, while Bayern Munich are also keen to get his signature. The Toffees will have to pay more than £8.5m to sign him.

“Newcastle have scouted him. He’s also on the list of Fulham, Brighton, Everton, Sevilla, Villarreal,” wrote Plettenberg

While there is interest from the Toffees, in all probability, they won’t be able to sign him, either in January or next summer.

The Toffees could undergo a major rebuild next summer, irrespective of where they stand at the end of the season. If they face more point deductions,

then chances are high that they will drop down to the Championship which will be a catastrophe in terms of financial activities.

In that case, they may have to sell some of their key players to balance the books, and a squad overhaul will become necessary.

Uzun is highly-rated in German football, and he probably will prefer to stay in his country at the moment, and play in the Bundesliga with top clubs like Bayern or Dortmund.

Nevertheless, Plettenberg says that Everton are in the race, but whether they will pursue a deal in the future remains to be seen
